Building Stronger Together: Empowering Women in Construction

In an industry historically dominated by men, women are steadily building a powerful presence in construction and remodeling — bringing new perspectives, diverse skill sets, and collaborative energy that is transforming the profession. Recognizing the need to foster this momentum and support the women who are shaping the future of our industry, NARI Atlanta is proud to announce the launch of a new initiative: Women In Construction, an inclusive community dedicated to connecting, inspiring, and empowering women across all areas of remodeling and construction.

The Importance of Women in Remodeling

Women have long played vital yet often underrepresented roles in construction — from business ownership and design to project management, finance, and skilled trades. Their growing presence in these areas is not only breaking stereotypes but also improving how the industry operates. Studies have shown that diverse teams lead to more creative problem-solving, improved client satisfaction, and stronger business performance. In remodeling, especially, where collaboration, communication, and attention to detail are key, women bring strengths that help projects run more smoothly and clients feel more confident.

These days, many homeowners making key decisions about home design and renovation are women. Involving more female professionals in the remodeling process provides clients with relatable perspectives and fosters trust. Whether leading design-build firms, managing project teams, or working on-site, women in construction bring balance, empathy, and innovation to every phase of a project.

A Rising Force in the Industry

The construction industry is changing, and women are helping lead that change. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women now make up nearly 11% of the overall construction workforce — the highest number in recorded history. Even more promising, the number of women in leadership roles, ownership positions, and skilled trade careers continues to rise every year.

Locally, NARI Atlanta members have seen this trend firsthand. Women-owned and women-led remodeling businesses are growing in number and influence, mentoring younger women, and creating opportunities for collaboration across specialties. The creation of the Women In Construction subgroup is a reflection of that growth — and a commitment to continuing it.

Building Community and Opportunity

The goal of NARI Atlanta's Women In Construction subgroup is to create a community where women can connect, share experiences, and grow both professionally and personally. Through networking events, educational programs, and mentorship opportunities, this group will serve as a resource for women at every stage of their construction careers — from students and apprentices to business owners and seasoned professionals.

By fostering collaboration instead of competition, Women In Construction aims to strengthen the industry as a whole. When women support one another — sharing ideas, best practices, and encouragement — the entire remodeling community benefits. Projects become more innovative, businesses become stronger, and clients receive the best possible experience.

 Inspiring the Future Workforce

A key mission of NARI Atlanta’s Women In Construction is to encourage young women to explore careers in remodeling and construction. By sharing success stories and providing mentorship opportunities, the group aims to demonstrate that construction offers diverse and fulfilling career paths, extending beyond design and management to skilled trades where women are in high demand.

Through outreach, partnerships with local schools, and community visibility, NARI Atlanta's Women In Construction subgroup seeks to empower young women to engage in shaping the homes and spaces of tomorrow.
